A Timeline of Two Designers
A multi—week project for a course on the history of graphic design at the Rhode Island School of Design, students were asked to pick two graphic designers and create a timeline exhibiting the work of these two artists throughout their lives. For my project, I choose to study the work of Allen Hurlburt, who while working for Look Magazine during the fifties and sixties revolutionized modern layout design, and Anna Kulachek, a young and highly experimental graphic designer working in Moscow today. Together in this magazine I combine the Hurlburt’s laws of layout design with Kulachek’s experimental typographic style.
As a final project for my Graphic Design Type class at the Rhode Island School of Design, students were asked to create a poster for a specific typeface. For this project I choose to work with Univers which was designed by Adrian Frutiger at the Linotype Foundry from 1954 to 1957.
